Originally raised in Orlando, Dr. F. Duncan Scott was inspired to pursue a career in medicine by his father, who is a registered nurse. Having asthma himself, Dr. Scott is driven to improve patient outcomes with an empathetic, holistic approach.
Dr. Scott completed medical school training at the University of Miami then Internal Medicine internship and residency at UAB in Birmingham. Following this he completed a 2 year Nephrology fellowship at the University of Virginia. He has practiced in Florida and Alabama since completing medical training. Dr. Scott was drawn to a career in nephrology by the mixture of complex patient problems and inpatient care, as well as clinician mentors from his training. Dr. Scott firmly believes that educating patients about their conditions and self-monitoring allows them to take more active roles in care and in preventing illness.
When not working, Dr. Scott enjoys spending time with his children, riding bicycles, exercising, boating, traveling, and outdoor cooking. Dr. Scott takes particular pride in teaching his children to cook. He enjoys the collegial relationship that is fostered at Doctor’s Kidney Care.
